Privacy Policy

Mesh+ is an Android app for Meshtastic radios. It has no accounts, no servers of its own, no ads and no analytics, and it doesn't collect, sell or share your personal data with us or anyone else. This page explains what the app does handle and where that data goes.

Messages and your radio

Messages you send and receive travel between your phone and your own Meshtastic radio over Bluetooth or a USB cable, and from there over the radio mesh to other people's radios. Room messages are encrypted with the room's key and direct messages are end-to-end encrypted by the Meshtastic firmware. Your message history, the list of radios you've used and your settings are stored only on your phone, inside the app's private storage, and are deleted when you uninstall the app.

Bluetooth and USB

The app uses Bluetooth only to find and connect to Meshtastic radios, and USB only to talk to a radio plugged into your phone. It doesn't use your location.

Internet

The app connects to the internet only when you open the firmware screen or update a radio: it asks api.meshtastic.org which firmware versions exist and downloads the firmware package from GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com). Those requests don't include any personal data; like any web request they reveal your IP address to those servers.

SMS and call relay (optional)

The relay is off unless you turn it on. When you turn it on, Android asks you for permission to receive and send SMS and to read your phone state and call log. While it's on, the app forwards the text, sender number and time of SMS messages your phone receives, and the number of incoming calls, to the private Meshtastic room you chose, and it sends SMS that members of that room request. This data goes only over the radio mesh to people in that room; it is never sent to us or to any server. A notification shows while the relay is on, and you can turn it off at any time in the app. Anyone who has that room's invite can read the relayed texts and send SMS from your number, so share the invite only with people you trust.

Notifications

The app shows notifications for new messages and while it stays connected to your radio in the background.

Children

Mesh+ isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their data.
